Christie Bio
Christie James is living her dream. Christie is currently the co-host for “The Renel and Christie Morning show.” On 98.1 KISS FM. Not bad for a woman who never intended to become an on-air personality. Christie first began her career in the public eye while serving in Italy as a member of the U.S. Navy. She was formerly stationed in Washington D.C. as a member of the Presidential Honor Guard under President Clinton. She worked as a tour guide for the Pentagon and performed several ceremonies at the White House and at Arlington National Cemetery. Her job as a journalist in the U.S. Navy led her to eventually (by chance) getting sucked into the world of radio and the rest is history.. . CLICK HERE FOR MORE
Renel's television experience is diverse, enlightening, and fun. She hosted her own music video program on the California Music Channel. Renel's sports broadcasting journey began as host of "Sports In The Classroom", a weekly high school sports education show, and host of "A's Inside Pitch", a weekly magazine series during the Oakland A's 1995 Season. These shows featured Renel interviewing Oakland A's team leaders, including Mark McGwire, as well as numerous sports luminaries. Renel spent the 2004 baseball season in front of the camera for Fox Sports Net Bay Area as co-host of the San Francisco "Giants Pre-Game Show".

In 2000, Renel was honored to be chosen by the San Francisco Giants as the Public Address Announcer for the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park (then Pacific Bell Park). Seated in one of the best seats in the house, Renel spends every home game surrounded by 40,000 baseball fans and an enthusiastic production crew. In her short tenure in the P.A. booth, Renel has logged such memorable experiences as the Park's inaugural Opening Day, Barry Bonds' incredible batting and home run records, and the Giants league and division championships. Renel's work in the booth has been recognized by the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame as the first female announcer of a championship game in any professional sport. Her scorecard from Game 3 of the 2002 World Series can be viewed in the Hall at Cooperstown!
Renel is Vice-Chair of The Friends of Faith, a non-profit organization dedicated to breast cancer awareness, education and prevention. When not working, Renel enjoys her leisure time in her San Francisco home with her husband Tommie. She is a health and fitness enthusiast (shot out to World Gym, 16th and DeHaro in San Francisco!) , she's a sports fanatic, (beyond passionate about the Oakland Raiders), she loves all kinds of music (From Luther Vandross to Elton John, Anita Baker to Celine Dion, The Tempts to the Eagles, Babyface to Kanye West, Destiny's Child to the Dixie Chicks, Madonna to Beyonce).
She doesn't know what she did before Tivo her favorites include: "All My Children", "Late Show with David Letterman", "Oprah" and "Ellen", "The Daily Show", "Real Time with Bill Maher", and almost everything on Thursday night!
Her comic idols are: Richard Pryor, Chris Rock, Letterman, Wanda Sykes, Carol Burnett and Johnny Carson. Her singing idols are: Gladys Knight, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder (duh!) and Barbra Streisand. Her hero: her late father, Nathaniel H. Brooks, Sr. a trailblazer, pioneer and the best role model and daddy a girl could ever have.
She is crazy about show business and pop culture, and shares her passion for all of that through her work everyday on radio and television. Her goal is to inspire, inform and entertain. She's unique. She's living her dreams. She's the Bay Area's very own Renel.
While working as the anchor of the news she was urged to fill-in for the morning radio host. Not being a morning person she did so “begrudgingly” and it turned out to be one of the best decisions she ever made. She was officially hooked!
Christie has been rocking a bay area mic since 2003. A feat she attributes to her friend and mentor, radio veteran Renel. She began her bay area radio career interning with the radio legend in early 2003. Christie is no stranger to hard work and perseverance. She has been on a steady climb since her internship began at KISQ. Christie has steadily worked her way up the radio ladder working as a night producer at local station KKIQ in Pleasanton before moving on to the promotions department at KKSF. She then continued to hone her craft as much as she could picking up a weekend position on KWIN in Stockton, before moving to a weekend position at STAR 101.3 and eventually 98.1 KISS FM. She also worked as a traffic reporter for AM news station KNEW.
In less than two years in the game Christie worked her way onto the bay area radio air waves landing a coveted full time on air position with WiLD 94.9. In the midday she used her quick wit and “keep it real” approach to provide a strong female voice for the women of the bay area. Eventually her midday success at WiLD led her to a morning co-host position on WiLD 94.9 with the JV Morning show, and finally to her current position as co-host of the Renel and Christie In The Morning Show.
With every move Christie James has proven that she can hold her own and bring in the listeners. Her friendly “keeping it real” and down to earth persona intermingled with infectious humor, informative celebrity interviews and hit songs keeps her listeners tuned in on the daily.
Christie consistently seeks to represent strong, intelligent, successful, driven women, while encouraging others to work hard to achieve their dreams. This multitalented communicator has also proven herself to be a desirable commodity in the voice over arena. She has done hundreds of commercials and is currently the voice of the station for KISQ and was the first African American voice of the station for a news/talk am station Green 960.
Christie spends her free time supporting charitable causes, promoting events for the bay area’s diverse LGBTQ population and using the powerful medium of radio to bring about positive change. She is a very successful bay area event promoter starting Lollipop Productions a women’s event company. She has worked with several organizations including Big Brothers and Sisters of the Bay Area, City of Hope, and AiDS Walk San Francisco. Christie James may not have gotten into radio on purpose but she is determined to stay. Her work ethic, natural ability to draw others near and love for her craft has kept her elevating to new heights! The sky is the limit!
